"ROAD" marked a significant new chapter in Duncan Robert McCormick's evolving practice; a body of work shaped by movement, atmosphere, and the experience of driving across the island of Great Britain. Developed throughout 2025, the exhibition brought together a new series of paintings that combined the immediacy and clarity of McCormick's acrylic technique with a renewed emphasis on brushwork, composition, and painterly depth.
The exhibition opened with a private preview evening hosted at H.R. Owen Lotus in Mayfair, an environment that closely echoed the spirit of the work itself. Surrounded by the beauty of the Lotus cars, the paintings explored the visual rhythm of the road: black ribbons of tarmac cutting through landscapes alive with colour, movement, weather, and light. A one-off ROAD pencil drawing by McCormick was auctioned on the night raising £1700 for the CiaO Foundation. The connection between motoring and painting became central to the exhibition's identity, with the works drawing on the sensation of travel as much as the physical landscape itself.
Following the Mayfair launch, "ROAD" continued with a two-week exhibition at OB Private in Notting Hill, where the paintings were shown in a quieter, more intimate setting. Together, the two venues allowed the work to be experienced through contrasting contexts: one energetic and design-led, the other relaxed and contemplative. The exhibition was accompanied by a series of private viewings in Knightsbridge, offering collectors and visitors an opportunity to engage more closely with the paintings and the broader direction of McCormick's practice.
The exhibition received great praise from collectors and art lovers alike which resulted in strong sales and marked an important moment in the continuing development of McCormick's work, with several paintings entering private collections in the UK and internationally.
