Trevor's Dream painting

On Wednesday the 19th November 2025, the Lotus showroom in London's Piccadilly hosted a preview of Duncan McCormick's new 'Road' series - 19 acrylic paintings inspired by his journeys along Britain's lesser-known backroads.

The series goes on show for two weeks from the 21st of November to the 4th of December at OB Private, 170 Westbourne Grove, Notting Hill, W11 2RW.

Using clear, striking colour, the works reflect McCormick's love affair with the changing landscapes, rhythms and fleeting perspectives of rural travel - bringing a distinctive meeting point between motoring and contemporary art.

"We have some fabulous and very diverse scenery on this island. These are the wonderful roads we still have and should cherish, when we veer away from the straight lines of the motorways." - Duncan McCormick

Using a dashboard-mounted time-lapse camera, McCormick collected thousands of images that enabled him to capture a dynamic, moving essence in his pictures. His work is built around landscapes in which flat, black roads draw the viewer deep into the composition, while surrounding colour and energetic brushwork generate speed and forward momentum.

In ROAD, movement becomes memory, light becomes distance, and each painting becomes an invitation to enter his world.

"In these pictures the far distance falls into muted tones, the middle ground settles into more natural hues, and by the time the eye reaches the foreground the hues are pushed to full saturation — with fluorescent colours to heighten its immediacy." - Duncan McCormick

About the Artist

Educated at Ellesmere College, Shropshire, McCormick subsequently studied Art & Drama at St. Martin's College, Lancaster. He now lives on the Welsh borders with his wife and twin daughters.

For many years McCormick painted narrative, figurative scenes in oils, developing deep compositional structures and storytelling. Over time he explored different mediums — including printmaking and pen & ink with watercolour - while retaining a deep fondness for colour, atmosphere, and the emotional resonance of place.

He has exhibited nationally and internationally, with paintings held in both private and public collections. In 2018 he was commissioned by Morgan Stanley for an eleven-piece series for its Canary Wharf offices, and in 2023 the Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) purchased two of his canvases.

His works have consistently achieved strong auction results, often surpassing estimates and attracting collector interest from across Europe, Asia and America. Following ROAD, further series are already in development.
