Sky Painting 8

The Sky Painting series arose from a commission for a singular piece in 2018 which lead to the creation of 19 artworks. The series features delicately realised clouds and mist juxtaposed with harsh impasto brushmarks. The works were painted on linen and the majority of them allowed raw linen to show through to the final pieces.

Three of the works were destroyed by a flood leaving just 16, all privately owned. The last, being Sky Painting 19 - which is in McCormick's private collection.

For the first time since completion and initial sales of the works, one of the series is now offered for sale:

Sky Painting 8 (70cm x 100cm, oil on linen, 2018) shows a gentle light blue grey cloud/mist scene on raw linen with three impasto marks in the foreground. The impasto work is in two differing shades of red and they contrast greatly with the rest of the composition. It's a stunning work made all the more striking with its bespoke frame crafted by the master frame makers at Kingswood Frames and Mirrors.
